Countries all over the globe bid for the honor of hosting international games, despite knowing that they require multi-billion dollar investments for cutting edge stadiums and infrastructure development.
These countries know the investment may not pay off economically.
Instead they envision it as a long-term social investment that simultaneously raises the image of the country and improves the quality of life.
